they pass down the conveyor
with a circular knife. Access

applied to belt, stopping and
guarding the inner blade at

Machine
transformed by
adding a physical
barrier while
making the
workspace more
efficient and easy
to operate.
Before physical barriers
and workspace updates.
Adding Safety items
to a machine should
never mean that the
process slows down,
in fact a correct
design not only
should make a
machine safer but,
more efficient than
before.
Switches and controls can
make a machine more safe
but, they should be used in
Conjunction with physical
barriers.
Nothing is
effective as physical
barriers, because they not
only protect the operator
but also the bystander.
Safety and Add on components
should not look like an after thought.
The design should operate and
appear as if it was always part of the
machine. Customers, Safety
Officers, etc. touring your plant
should not be able to tell that the
update to the machine was an after
thought or thrown on at the last
minute. Updates must be clean,
rugged, ergonomic and a benefit to
the process.
After:  New hood design.
Before: Original OEM
design with no guarding.
